In looking at the bill you realize it's winter time, your water consumption is down, but the bill says it is up as if its summer when your water consumption is higher. Then it hits you new toilet a water leak! At some point almost all homeowners run into this problem.

One other common design that is considered "washerless" was made famous by Delta and copied by several other makers. It uses little "cup" seals that fit over springs recessed in the back of the valve body. The springs press these "seals" against the cartridge and regulate the flow through little tapered openings in the cartridge. If you have one of these and it's dripping, changing these springs and seals will usually correct it. Here's a tip. Once you have the cartridge out of the way, insert a phillips screwdriver into the seal and pop both the seal and spring out. Check that your plug holes and waste outlets are clear of hair and solidified soap also check the "U" bends or traps under your sinks for potential blockages. Occasionally pour boiling water line repair down your sinks and shower wastes not forgetting the washing machine trap. Look outside too for any weeds or leaves that may be blocking gutters, gully's and waste outlets.
Turn the water off at the main shutoff valve at the street. You should be able to take a pair of pliers(or your bare hands) and turn the valve at the water meter to shut off the water to your home. Once you have shut off the water you can cut the pipe around the leak and make the repair.
Is your garbage disposal clogged, but it is turning ok? This may be due to a blockage in the pipe. If you look at the pipe work under your sink you will see that the disposal is connected to a pipe that should join to a U bend and providing it was installed correctly it should have a connector that can be undone. If you undo this connector the pipe will pull away and generally this is where most blockages occur. Remove the blockage and reconnect the pipe.
